Elmer M. McNutt KINGSPORT, Tenn. Elmer M. McNutt, 86, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at The Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home, Tenn. Born in Gate City, Va., he was the son of the late William A. and Annie Lovie Epperson McNutt. Mr. McNutt was a member of the First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Kingsport. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and won two Bronze Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation. Elmer was also a member of VFW Post No. 4933, Federal Order of Eagles, and The Valley Benhams, Va., Shriners Club. He was a prominent homebuilder and built homes in Patton Heights, Hiara Heights, Colonial Heights, Larkspur, and in many other local communities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Audaleen McNutt; brother, Keith McNutt. Elmer is survived by his daughters, Nadine McNutt, Kingsport, Cindy Lynne McNutt-Kaestner and husband Richard, Philomath, Oregon; son, Gary McNutt and wife Madeline, Miami, Fla., in Kingsport; sister, Edna Hoover; brother, Arthur McNutt and wife Thelma; sister-in-law, Jewel Garren; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Chapel. A Graveside and Committal service will follow in Mountain Home National Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, P.O. Box 4000 (135) Mountain Home, TN 37684. Checks with "CLC, in memory of Elmer McNutt" on the memo line will directly benefit the comfort of veterans in the Community Living Center.
