Ezra Meade Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 29, 2009.
Ezra Hoover Meade "So he answered and said you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength and with all of your mind, and your neighbor as yourself. And he said to him, you have answered rightly; do this and you will live." Luke 10:27, 28 Ezra Hoover Meade was born at home in Castlewood, Va., Jan. 1, 1929, to the late Oscar Farley and Molly Castle Meade. Hoover was taken to his Heavenly home on Dec. 26, 2009. Waiting to follow him in his journey to Heaven, are his loving wife of 47 years, Reva Castle Meade; his only daughter, Peggy; her husband Jim Hogan Jr.; three grandsons, Cody Allen Underwood, Isaac Axel Hogan and Trey Hogan; sister-in-law, Phyllis Burton; and her friend, Billy Burke; several special nieces and nephews. Gone before us, but not forgotten, are father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Lottie Castle; brothers-in-law, Junior Burton and Bobby Gene Castle; his brothers, Malcomb Lee, Clarence and Grover Meade; one sister, Nannie Sharp. Hoover was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for 34 years before he retired from Rubatex Corp. After retirement, Hoover enjoyed his neighbors, special friends, Frank Frazier, Matt English and Grady Ayers. The family wishes to extend special thanks and prayers to hospice nurses, Kathy, Joy, Stephanie; hospice volunteer Brenda; hospice staff social worker, Chris; and Chaplain Mark Florey; as well as Hoover's private attendants, Ruth Bailey and Greg Frazier. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Shady Grove Baptist Church at 1861 Jordantown Road, with the Rev. Wayne Meade and the Rev. Darrell Baker officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shady Grove Rescue Squad, 101 Shady Grove Lane, Thaxton, VA 24174; or your favorite charity. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

Aunt Reva and Cousin Peggy,

I am sorry for your lost. If I can be of any help, please let me know. I will come to visit you soon and I am sorry I couldn't make it to the memorial service. I love you both very much and God will see you through the difficult times as he has seen me through the rough times. My prayers are with you both.

Love,
Vonda

It was such an honor & priviledge to come to know Hoover & your entire family. He was a loving & dear man, although I only had the opportunity to meet him in the last few months. I hope we have forged a lasting friendship, you always welcomed me like one of the family. Your deep faith will see you through this time. Many prayers..
