Fannie Irene Holland Higgins CEDAR BLUFF, Va. Fannie Irene Holland Higgins Mumpower, age 97, of Middle Creek, went to heaven to be with her Savior. She passed away serenely and quietly in her sleep on Sunday morning, Nov. 22, 2009, at her home, following a brief illness. Born May 17, 1912, in Coalwood, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Mary Ellen Rose Holland. She had made her home in Cedar Bluff for over 30 years and was a retired cook having worked at Wimpy Jones, Hill Top Restaurant and also the Casino Grill. She worked for a time at the bus station in Richlands. She attended Layman's Chapel Church for over 30 years and later attended New Beginnings Church. All her life she enjoyed crocheting and making quilts and her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James P. Higgins; her second husband, Louis R. Mumpower; one son at birth in 1928; one daughter, Cleta June White; three grandsons, Ricky Houchins, Willard White Jr. and Daniel Houchins Jr.; three granddaughters, Katherine, Alisha White and Kay Harold; one great-granddaughter, Becky Hampton; five brothers, Charlie, Henry Clay, James Alfred, Ned and Jarvis; three sisters, Dosha, Emmie "Emma" and Gaynell. She is survived by three sons, Raymond Higgins and wife Patti of Cedar Bluff; Gene Higgins and wife Christina of Miami and James Higgins and girlfriend, Elizabeth of Cartersville, Ga.; five daughters, Nancy Marie Houchins and husband Allen, Juanita Walters and husband James, Thelma Houchins and husband "Buck", all of Cedar Bluff, Brenda White of the home; and Linda Boyd and husband Mike of Claypool Hill; 36 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; and 33 great--great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff with Pastor Danny Houchins officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Michael "Howie" Boyd, Nathan Boyd, Roger Houchins, Nicky Houchins, Scotty Cordle, Adam Higgins, R.J. Chavez and David Houchins Jr. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff. . I saw her last in June and I am so glad I got to see her one more time before she passed. I will always remember my great grandma Mumpower.
