Gary and I were ETSU classmates in the early 1970s. Both of us were veterans of military service during the Vietnam War ( he was Navy and I was Air Force). After graduation we shared an apartment in Kingsport for a time. Gary got a job with United Telephone in Bristol and I later joined him there. He was my supervisor until I moved to Charlottesville, Va., to work for another telephone company. We lost touch over the years. He died in December 2009 when he was only 62 years of age. His wife, Elizabeth, had passed away earlier. He was survived by his son, Matthew, and several siblings.
