Gay Gobble Phillips ABINGDON, Va. "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me." Gay Gobble Phillips, age 79, went to be with the Lord Dec. 5, 2009. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, where she was a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren very much. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church of Abingdon, where she served as secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Phillips; her father and mother, Jesse and Nettie Price Gobble; and her brother, Cecil Gobble. She is survived by: son, Raymond Phillips and wife Sue; daughters, Penny Avery and Peggy Bryan and husband John; granddaughter, Amber McMurray; grandson, Kenneth Phillips and wife Tara; great-grandchildren, Hunter Phillips, Shelbie Phillips and James Dylan Phillips. She looks at the men and ladies at Central Baptist Church as her brothers and sisters in Christ. She loved them all. Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Les Ketron and Brother Dwayne Dillard officiating. The entombment will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. prior to the service.
