Gay Gobble Phillips ABINGDON, Va. "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me." Gay Gobble Phillips, age 79, went to be with the Lord Dec. 5, 2009. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, where she was a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren very much. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church of Abingdon, where she served as secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Phillips; her father and mother, Jesse and Nettie Price Gobble; and her brother, Cecil Gobble. She is survived by: son, Raymond Phillips and wife Sue; daughters, Penny Avery and Peggy Bryan and husband John; granddaughter, Amber McMurray; grandson, Kenneth Phillips and wife Tara; great-grandchildren, Hunter Phillips, Shelbie Phillips and James Dylan Phillips. She looks at the men and ladies at Central Baptist Church as her brothers and sisters in Christ. She loved them all. Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Les Ketron and Brother Dwayne Dillard officiating. The entombment will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Central Baptist Church. Online condolences may be registered at www.weaverfuneralhome.net Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home.

We are sorry for you loss. Gay was always at Church with a smile on her face and always asking about my sister who's health puts her in the hospital on several occassions she never complained and was always concerned with her brothers and sisters in Christ. I truly know that she is in Heaven rejoicing. We will miss her very much. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

We all have the fondest memories of our visits to Bristol, Virginia, and the amazing hospitality of Aunt Gay. She was a truly lovely and gracious Christian woman and will be dearly missed.
