Gladys Taylor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 7, 2010.
Gladys Marie Taylor Gladys Marie Taylor, 86, formerly of Jacksontown, Ohio, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, in Johnson City, Tenn. She was born in Ripley, W.Va., on Oct. 26, 1924, to the late Louease and John Goldsmith. She was a member of Jacksontown United Methodist Church and a graduate of Thornville High School in Thornville, Ohio. Gladys spent over 25 years in the grocery business in Hebron and Heath, Ohio, which was a perfect career to allow her to interact with her many friends and customers on a regular basis. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Clyde "Pudge" Taylor. They were able to enjoy nearly 60 years of marriage prior to Pudge's death in 1998. They spent over 20 years enjoying winters together in Fort Myers, Fla., where they played golf nearly every day, fished, played bingo and traveled with their friends. She was proud that she consistently won many of the golf tournaments she entered and had the distinction of achieving two "hole-in-one's" while in her seventies. Her two grandsons were a special part of her life as she took them golfing, fishing and to ballgames. She also sent them baseball cards every week when they were in Little League. She is survived by her daughter, Danea Taylor Walters and her husband Mitch Walters of Bristol Tennessee; two grandsons and their wives, Brandon and Kim Walters of Charlotte, N.C., and Dustin and Kelly Walters of Johnson City; six great- grandchildren, Sam, Kate, Emma, Mack, Parke and Henry; seven brothers, Doug Goldsmith, Ernest Goldsmith, Dewey Goldsmith, Eddie Young, Tom Young, Chuck Young, and David Young; and many nieces and nephews. Gladys had a very special relationship with her brother, Ernest, and a niece, Sue Bixler. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Young and Owen Young. The family will receive friends at the Jacksontown United Methodist Church from 10 until 11 o'clock Thursday morning, Dec. 9, 2010. A celebration of her life will follow at the church at 11 o'clock with Rev. Bob Beyer and Rev. Carol Kirk officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery in Thornville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, P.O. Box 96391, Washington, DC 20090-6391; or to the Jacksontown United Methodist Church, 9350 Jacksontown Road, Jacksontown, OH 43030. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed by visiting www.Oakley-Cook.com The body has been taken to Boring-Sheridan Funeral Home in Thornville, Ohio. Arrangements for Mrs. Taylor and her family have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home, Bristol Tennessee.

Danea, I am deeply saddened by the news of your mother's passing. There are so many great memories I have of both her and Uncle Pudge from when I was younger. I am sorry I was not able to attend her memorial today to pay my respects. You and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers all week. Please know that on every occasion I spoke to your mother, ever since I was a little girl, she always mentioned you and the boys with the great love and admiration. She was so proud and thought the world of you and your sons. Every time I think of your mother I smile and picture her celebrating a good putt in heaven with Uncle Pudge holding the flag. With love and my deepest sympathy, God Bless.

Danea and family, So very sorry to hear of the loss of you Mother. She was a great gal, friend and golfer. As a member of the " Golfing Grannies" we spent a lot of good time on the golf course with her. I enjoyed her company while she lived in Heath. Her get togethers always added a few pounds to the waist for she was a greacous hostess. She will be greatly missed.

I always enjoyed her in church, or in the grocery store.
She was always so proud of you and the boys!
