Gladys Irene White GLADE SPRING, Va. Gladys Irene White, 78, a Christian, loving mother, grandmother, grea- grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, neighbor and cancer survivor went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Gladys' death was sudden and unexpected. She was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Galax, Va., a daughter of the late Rev. Buford Woolwine and Mattie Leonard Woolwine. Gladys was the wife of the late David E. White Sr. She retired from the Washington County School Systems, working in the cafeteria at Patrick Henry High School. Gladys was also an Avon representative in the Emory area for many years. She was a member of the Church of New Beginnings in Glade Spring and was a devoted Christian. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Woolwine; and son-in-law, Troy Mutter. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Teresa Dutton and husband Mike of Bristol Virginia, Carolyn Puckett and husband Dave of Glade Spring, Janet Mutter of Glade Spring, Va., and David White Jr. of the home. She was grandmother to Charles Puckett, Malena Dutton Rowekamp, Ashley Puckett Stegall, Christin Dutton, Chassity White Hawkins, Jared Dutton and Shane Mutter. She was great- grandmother to Alex Hawkins, Isaac Hawkins, Alura Dutton, Aspen Dutton and Cody Puckett. Surviving sisters are Oleta Stephenson, Betty Dearen, Doris Taylor, Peggy Aimsworth and Betty Woolwine. She is also survived by a special friend, Billie Lester; special sisters-in-law, Sue White Campbell, Ruby White and Betty Woolwine; special friends, the "Golden Girls"; and a host of friends and family who loved her and will miss her. Gladys was a pillar in her church and her community. To have known her was to have loved her, and those who did are confident she now rests with her Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, with Rev. Jeff Wallace and Rev. Jim Litton officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens on Lee Highway in Abingdon. Pallbearers will be Freddie White, Gary Williams, Cody Cruey, Jared Dutton, Shane Mutter, Kevin Holmes and Ricky White. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Umbarger, Olen White and Mike Taylor.
