Gloria M. Cantrell BRISTOL, Va. Gloria M. Cantrell, 85, went to be with the Lord Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Williamson, W.Va., and was a 25-year resident of Bristol Virginia. A former employee of Parks Belk and a member of Victory Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Cantrell; and two brothers, Joe Lamanca Jr. and Johnny Lamanca. Survivors include her three children, Linda Benson, Edythe Gribler and Byron Phillips; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Crawford and Teresa Sullivan; a brother, Jimmy Lamanca; "adopted" children, Pat and Ken Henley. Special thanks to good friend, Mattie Whorton. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Austin Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Shepherd, Cecil Carrier, David Sneed, Parker Sammons, David Gribler and Brian Zimmerman. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Henley, Dr. Steve Hanor and Dr. Christopher Kennedy. The family will receive friends from 7 9 p.m. Wednesday at Akard Funeral Home. Your Mother, Gloria was indeed a special lady and she will always be remembered for her compassion,hard work, as well as her love for cooking. She was always so generous, sharing goodies with everyone she knew. She made the best turtle bars and banana nut bread ever!
We lost our Mother, Naomi Helton, 5 years ago so we have a heart felt sympathy for you and understand what your feeling right now. Just remember your precious Mother wasn't just a part of your past, but she will be in your future. Heaven awaits us all. God Bless you all!
