Grover Eugene "Gene" Widner ABINGDON, Va. Grover Eugene "Gene" Widner, age 82, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va. Gene was a lifelong resident and businessman of Washington County, Va. He was owner of Widner Brothers Auto Parts for 58 years and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Cleveland Widner and Blanch Denton Widner; one brother and sister, Homer Widner and Leona Gibbs. Gene is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dottie Widner; one son, Marlin Goff and wife, Jennifer; two grandchildren, Jaclyn and Jacob Goff; one sister, Betty Shaver and husband, Mike; nephew, Mark Thomas; nieces, Tammy Thomas and Wanda Perkins and husband, Virgil; and several other beloved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 from 6 7 p.m. at Highlands Fellowship in Abingdon. Memorial service will follow, with military rites conducted by Highlands Fellowship Honor Guard. Friends can also visit anytime at the home of Mr. Widner, 21354 Crosswinds Drive, Abingdon, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Highlands Fellowship Food Pantry, P.O. Box 553, Abingdon VA 24212.
