Howard Mumpower BRISTOL Va. Howard Mumpower, 79, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born on April 18, 1931, to the late Joe and Elizabeth Canter Mumpower. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Quales, and by his brothers, Jessie and Billy Mumpower. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Okinawa during World War II. Howard was a member of East End Christian Church. Howard is survived by his daughter, Debbie Whitfield; his grandsons, Eric Whitfied and Shane McConnell; his great-grandchildren, Tyler and Madison McConnell; his brothers, Joe Jr., Bobby, and Eddy Mumpower; and his sisters, Dorothy Chapman, Helen Smith, Peggy Smith, Susan Worley, and Katie Allen. The committal and inurnment will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning, June 11, 2010, at the National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn., with military rites presented by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. A memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, June 11, at East End Christian Church with Pastor Howard Murray officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to the East End Christian Church Building Fund, 1216 Texas Ave., Bristol, VA 24201; or to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601. I did not know Howard personally, but I do know he was part of the Mumpower family from Washington County Virginia. I would like to know about his great grandfather who must have been kin to My grandfather Samuel Joseph Mumpower. If any one has a computer, please get in touch. with me. May the Peace of Our Lord be with the family in the lost of Howard. May his love continue in his family.
