Howard R. Wells RICHLANDS, Va. Howard R. Wells, age 75, passed away Dec. 19, at his home, following a long illness. He was a retired foreman for Pittston Coal Company. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge No. 216, and a U. S. Army Veteran. He was the son of Mae Wade Wells of Cedar Bluff and the late Martin Wells. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carrie Wells. Survivors are his loving wife of 52 years, Lola Keen Wells; daughters, Vickie Aldridge and Mike of Richlands; Jackie Besase of Roanoke, Va. and Dorothy Malz and Larry of Belle Plaine, Minn.; granddaughter like a daughter, Crystal Shelton; grandchildren, Derek, Ryan, Cory, and Kayla Besase, Jimmy, Danny and Jessica Malz; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Katie Wells of Cedar Bluff and Ann Jamison of Plymouth, Mich.; brother, Billy Wells of Paris, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with the Rev. Carter Wells and the Rev. Bill Shook officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Derek, Ryan and Cory Besase, Danny Wells, Roy Wells, Kenny Wells and Larry Shortt. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff.
