James Henry Monk

James Henry Monk HONAKER, Va. Mr. James Henry Monk, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Saturday Jan. 9, 2010, at his home. Born June 13, 1939, in Berwind, W.Va., he was a son of the late Vicie Ball Monk and Robert Monk. He had spent most of his life in the area and was a retired coal miner having been employed by Seaboard in the Buchanan County area. He attended Freedom Chapel Church in the Honaker area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Troy Monk. Survivors include his wife, Connie Monk of the home; one daughter, Vickie Monk of Pounding Mill; one son, Roy Monk and his wife, Chrissy of Tazewell; one brother, Elbert Monk and wife, Goldie of Meadowview; step-father, Clarence Honaker; three step-daughters, Kelly Myers of the home, Kim Ratliff and husband, Randy of Lebanon, and Amanda Peak of Miss.; daughter-in-law, Leanna Nichols; grandchildren, Chelsea Hill and husband, Timothy, Nathan Monk, and Mark Horn; three step-grandchildren, Ryan Honaker, Danny Ratliff, and Richard Ratliff; one great-grandchild, Justice Hill; and one special niece, Isabella Williams also survives. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Home Nursing Company and Ricky Strouth. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with the Rev. Fairley Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Va. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Williams, Richard Ratliff, Danny Ratliff, Ryan Honaker, Jerry Monk, and Tommy Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Williams, Charles Galliher, and Mark Horn. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Sunday.
