James (Jim) Malin Shaffer RICHLANDS, Va. James (Jim) Malin Shaffer, age 77, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010, at his home following a brief illness. A native of Beckley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert L. and Anna Vipperman Shaffer. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and was a Bronze Star recipient. He retired from Ingersoll Rand in 1991 where he was superintendent of the Rebuild division. He was a member and Worthy Patron of the Richlands Eastern Star No. 104, a member of the Richlands Masonic Lodge No. 318 and the Knights Templer. He was a member of the American Legion and the Reynolds Ridge Community Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kirby Shaffer; three brothers, Robert Shaffer, Jackie Shaffer and Teddy Shaffer; and one sister, June Shaffer Moore. Jim is survived by his wife, Sandy (Sadie) Shaffer; three daughters, Sandra Thornton and husband Eddie, Lela Acord and husband Buddy and Sheena Vandall and husband Bo, all of Beckley, W.Va.; sne step daughter, Lonica Deskins and husband Harold (Opie) of Bristol Virginia; one step son, Shawn Cole and wife Martha of Reynolds Ridge, Va.; one brother, Jerry Shaffer and wife Maxine of Beckley, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Gary Moten, John Martin, Greg Acord, James Acord, Nichole Ricottilli, Amber Ricottilli, Isaac Cole and Tyler Cole; 13 great-grandchildren, A.J. Moten, Josh Moten, Jordan Moten, Kadence Martin, Blake Martin, Tyler Acord, Haley Acord, Kierra Acord, Jayden Acord, David Ricottilli, Archie Lilly, Gabriel Wood and Charlie Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Va., with Pastor Paul David Crawford and Lonnie Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Fox Cemetery at Reynolds Ridge, Va. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Casey-Short V.F.W. Post 9640. The family will receive friends at the Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, Va., from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, with Masonic and Eastern Star services at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Reynolds Ridge Community Church, 1392 Reynolds Ridge Road, Bandy, VA 24602. we are so sorry for your loss but we all know that jim is in a better plac e. our thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of saddness and may god be by your side and help you to make it through all the grief. god bless you. you and jim were GREAT neighbors to us on Floyd Ave.
