John Preston Seymore ABINGDON, Va. John Preston Seymore, 95, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. John was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va. He was born June 1, 1914, to the late Frank and Martha Seymore. He enjoyed fishing, camping and all sports, particularly baseball. John loved playing shuffleboard while vacationing in Florida, and last year he won the title of Shuffleboard Champion. John was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church for over 70 years and served as a deacon for 60 years. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary McVey Seymore; his son, James Edward Seymore; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Miller Seymore; two sons: Clyde Seymore and wife Ellen of Bristol Virginia, and John Seymore Jr. and wife Susan of Damascus; five daughters, Louise Crigger and husband John of Abingdon, Marie Harris and husband C.W. of Abingdon, Ruth Latham and husband Eugene of Bristol Virginia, Judy Myers and husband Butch of Draper Valley, Va., and Linda Forrester and husband Danny of Abingdon; one stepson, Vernie Miller and wife Lynn of Meadowview; two step-daughters, Barbara Popa and husband Constantine of Meadowview and Mitchie Klint and husband Don of Montana; one brother, Sam Seymore and wife Stella of Abingdon; two sisters, Pauline Griffith and husband Lyle and Dorothy Countis, all of Bristol Virginia; 19 grandchildren; 29 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for John Seymore will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Greenfield Baptist Church, with Rev. Thomas Capron officiating. The burial will follow in the Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Crigger, Mark Crigger, Allen Harris, William Seymore, Mike Seymore, Steven Roark, John Seymore III, Michael Cox and Van Forrester. The family will receive friends at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, from 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 30080 Hawthorne Drive, Meadowview, VA 24361.
