I am very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He was a gentlemen. We worked opposite sides of the desk, but in spite of that formed a lasting friendship. I know he is in a better and not suffering any more.

Jane, Joseph, and Cora
Phyllis and I are deeply saddend to hear of the passing of Joe. Our friendship with Joe began many years ago and for me while I was working for the Virginia Tax Department. I first met Joe one morning in the company of Larry Trent in Larry's office on an assessmentment matter. Joe, Larry and I had such an enjoyable meeting talking about the finer points of valuation in Appalachia and Sowrds Creek. I always looked forward to meeting with Joe over the years. I will keep those fond memories of Joe with me forever.

Joe was the epitome of the word friend. He challenged people to think outside the box (Ford motor in a Chevrolet?)and he taught me it was OK to be different. I know he will be missed in the streetrod community but more importantly I know he will be missed by all that he came in contact with. He was a true gentleman.
To the family, I can only ask that you read the 55th Psalm and take solace in its words for they are true.
God Bless You All and carry on in life knowing that Joe is in a better place.

Dear Jane and Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy in this time of grief. Whether it was as a fellow department head with the City of Newport News or as a board member of the Credit Union, Joe was a true friend and professional who I will long miss and remember.

It was with a heavy heart and much sadness I learned of the passing of brother Joe Street from Doc Weixler. I had last seen Joe when the Tidewater Street Rod Association car club cleaned up and raked leaves in his yard in early December.
Joe was our most veteran member, having joined around the mid 1970's. He was often teased about having a blue 1931 Chevrolet with a Ford motor in it and being a fast driver. A few years ago the club cruised to the first Sonic Drive-In in Tidewater near Suffolk after meeting at the foot of the James River Bridge. Joe was driving the lead car, I was in the rear. Joe always told the tale that he had arrived at the Sonic, parked, ordered supper, finished and chewed thru two toothpicks before I got there. As for our love of Bluegrass Music, we did am imitation of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs introducing the song "Shucking The Corn" from their Martha White Flour TV Show.
I found Joe to be highly intelligent, very charasmatic, possessing a wry sense of humor, having a calming influence on our club meetings and sharing a love of Bluegrass Music with me. He was golden.
He taught me the meaning of "Jim Saville Time", which meant are we leaving or starting a meeting on the exact minute or do we wait a few minutes.

Jane,
I've yet to meet a man who was more of a gentleman than Joe. Regardless of the situation, he never had anything disparaging to say about anyone. I worked with Joe for many years at the city, and could always count on him for an encouraging word, intelligent and insightful thoughts, and most of all, a laugh or two. You and your family were blessed to have had him in your lives. He'll be missed by those of us who were fortunate to have known him, for he truly did enrich our lives as well.

Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am that he is no longer with us. He truly was like a father to me and I wanted to thank you all for sharing your family with me! I will miss all of his wise counsel and his great sense of humor! I will never forget the fun we had around the dinner table. Those were truly some of my greatest memories! I love you all!

I will always remember Joe very fondly as truly one of the "good guys" - the consummate professional, a devoted husband and father, and a caring and supportive friend. I feel fortunate to have known him all these years through our affiliation with the VAAO, and have appreciated his friendship and all of the contributions he made to our profession and our organization. He will be very greatly missed.

I am very saddened by the loss of Joe. He was a good friend during our years of working together for the city. I always appreciated his wit and the way he enjoyed "picking" on me in good humor. His love for his family was clearly evident, and I know you count your blessings for him.
