L. Snapp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 8, 2009.
L. Arnolene Snapp BLUEFIELD, Va. L. Arnolene Snapp, age 73, of 55 Sedgewood Townhouse, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Born on July 2, 1936, in Montcalm, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Everett Johnson and Verlie Meadows Hicks. She was a graduate of Bluefield High School where she was a star majorette in the marching band. She was also a graduate of McClain's Business College. She had been a resident of Bluefield, Va., for the past 25 years and was a member of the Episcopal church. Those who were fortunate to have known Arnolene will remember her as being full of life and having a free and loving spirit. She was a wonderful mother to her three sons, a teacher for her daughters-in-law, and a straight to the point "Mumsie" who guided her grandchildren and great- grandchildren with wisdom and grace. The 55 year love affair she shared in marriage with her husband was enduring. She was an avid golfer as well as an active member of the Richlands Garden Club for many years. Her green thumb was notorious amongst her friends. Her passion for shopping, especially for antiques, was neverending. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Benny H. Hicks. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Daniel T. Snapp of the home; her sons, Randy and wife Debbie Snapp of Durham, N.C., Keith and wife Alisa Snapp of Charleston, S.C., and Gregory and wife Shawn Snapp of Woodstock, Ga. She is also survived by four grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. Her surviving siblings include her brothers, Sonny and wife Janice Hicks of Bluefield, W.Va., and Darrell and wife Betty Hicks, also of Bluefield; and sisters, Bonnie Yelek of Loveland, Colo., and Rita Hicks Brown of Orlando, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, W.Va. Father Russ Hatfield will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell. Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Dear Dan & Family,
I am so sorry for your loss of Mrs. Snapp. I have so many fond memories of her while I was growing up with "her boys" that there are too many to count. I spent alot of time at the Snapp house in Cedar Bluff and Arlene was always so kind and special to all of us "kids"; she was always right in the middle of the fun... She had a joyous spirit that inspired everyone around her. She will be truly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
With Sympathy and Love,
Anita Short

Dan and Family:

It is with sorrow that I write to each of you about Arnolene's passing. She was always a very happy person and loved to have a fun time with her friends. I am sorry that the last few years of her life was spent in pain.

She is now in a better place where there is no suffering or pain. I heard a poem yesterday that was read at a memorial for a homeless person entitled " I will spend my Christmas with Jesus". That is a lovely thought to remember she is in the hands of a loving savior.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
