Lois Carty Horton COEBURN, Va. Lois Carty Horton, 77, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manie & Annie Carty and her husband William Hagan Horton. She was a graduate of Coeburn High School in 1951 and was employed as a bank teller for the Farmers Exchange Bank and Miners Exchange Bank. Surviving are her brother, Bill Carty and his wife Elinor of Wise, Va.; a special niece, Lisa Hess of Coeburn; several nieces and nephews; two special care givers, Janet Sue Mills and Mary Bond. The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sturgill Funeral Home, 310 Sixth St., NW, Coeburn, VA. Funeral services will be conducted 7:30 p.m. in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Coeburn, with Charles "Jibber" Ward officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at the Greenwood Acres Cemetery, Coeburn. The family and friends will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Breeding, Nathaniel Lane, Ernie Collins, Jimmy McElrath, Charlie Deel and Jerry Ball. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Horton, Frank Hill, Charlie Clay and John Hall Sr. Sturgill Funeral Homes, 310 Sixth St., NW, Coeburn, VA 24230, in charge of arrangements.
