Lucy Sutherland DORAN, Va. Lucy Sutherland, age 79, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Clinch Valley Medical Center. Born March 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the ate Dock and Flora McClanahan. She enjoyed being with family, gardening and quilting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carmel Mitchell; her second husband, Brady Sutherland; one son, Clinard Wayne Mitchell; one brother, Jim McClanahan; and one sister, Helen Boyd. She is survived by two daughters, Maye McGlothlin and husband Darrel of Richlands and Martha Boyd and husband Dewey of Doran; two sons, Leon Mitchell and wife Rita of Rosedale and Randy Mitchell and fianc‚e Mary of Doran; five grandchildren, Karen Deel, Douglas Boyd, Nathan Mitchell, Randa Mitchell and Lucy Mitchell; two great-grandsons, Lucas Deel and Mason Boyd; three brothers, Robert McClanahan and wife Bonnie of Tazewell, Charlie McClanahan and wife Gladys of Grundy and Jerry McClanahan of Grundy; four sisters, Goldie Mitchell of Doran, Ada Deel of Prater, Barbara Coleman of Charlotte, N.C., and Jenny Clevinger and husband Jimmy of Grundy; many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Rev. Doug Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff.
