Marie Tate BRISTOL, Va. Marie Tate died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009 at her home surrounded by family and caregivers. She was the daughter of John Vanover and Mae Deel Vanover. Born in Russell County, Va., Nov. 8, 1920, she spent most of her life in Dickenson County, Va., where she taught in the public school system. The past 30 years she lived in Abingdon, Va., where she worked as a Realtor and was active in community services. She was for over 50 years married to George W. Tate who in 1990, preceded her in death. She is survived by her only child, Loretta Trayer, Bristol Virginia; five nephews, Jim Ford and wife, Annie, Kingsport, Tenn., Joe Tate and wife Mary, Clintwood, Va., Douglas Tate and wife, Fran, Prescott, Ariz., Alison Steffey and wife, Mozelle, Clintwood, Va., and Ivory Steffey and wife, Mary Sue, Clinchco, Va. A special thanks to her caregivers and doctors, especially Faye Roark and Dr. David Thompson, Polly Alexander, Tracy Kimmell, and the staff of Amercian Home Care, especially Lisa Cordell. The family will receive friends Monday evening, Nov. 16, 2009, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon, Va. The graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va., with the Rev. Dr. Paul Hamilton Fuller IV officiating. Family and friends may assemble at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. Tuesday for the procession to the cemetery. Marie loved flowers and animals. For those wishing to send expressions of sympathy, floral tributes are acceptable or donations can be made to In His Hands Small Animal Rescue, P. O. Box 67, Hiltons, VA 24258; or to the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic, 16222 Lee Highway, Bristol, VA 24202. Those wishing to express sympathy on line or to sign the guest register may do so at www.farrisfuneralservice.com.
