Mary Hazel Hensley MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. Mary Hazel Hensley, age 83, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at her residence. She was born on February 28, 1927, in Johnson County, to the late Eck Brooks and Blanche Watson Brooks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Eugene (Bud) Hensley; sisters Ruth Miller and husband Dudley and Frances Mae Brooks, brothers Ralph Brooks, Ernest Brooks, Charles Brooks and wife Barbara and a sister-in-law, Helen Smith. Mary Hazel was a 1945 Graduate of Johnson County High School, had retired from Mountain City Post Office with 30 years of service, loved her flowers and to collect angels. Mary Hazel was a very active and supportive member of the First United Methodist Church where she had served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Open Door Sunday School Class for many years, was active in the United Methodist Women and had served as communion leader for many years. Mary Hazel was a dedicated member of the Beta Theta Women's Club where her membership and dedication to helping others was treasured by her associates as well as many in the community. The club members will be making a memorial donation in honor of Mary Hazel to the Johnson County Cancer Support Group. Survivors include her son Robert Hensley; her grandchildren, Jennifer H. Icenhour and husband Billy of Mountain City, Tenn., and Steve L. C. Hensley of Miami, Fla.; her great grandchildren, Thurman Everett (Bud) Icenhour, Rhiannon Mei-Lin Icenhour, Ryleigh Isadora Icenhour, Samantha Gabriel Hensley and Kalel Wayne Lin Hensley; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Willa and Donnelly Adams and Ethel and Joe Robinson all of Blountville, Tenn., Hasel and Jean Hensley of Bristol, Roger and Barbara Hensley, Jim and Sue Hensley and Tom and Helen Hensley all of Mountain City; sisters-in-law Ruth Brooks Hawkins of Mountain City and Helen Brooks of Bristol Virginia; former daughter-in-law, Yu-Mei Hensley; several nieces and nephews, special friends Carolyn Roberts and Thelma Lipford who was also her caregiver. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Morris, Rev. Larry Rye and Rev. Randy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be members of the Johnson County Honor Guard, Marvin Fritts and Jack Greer. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Open Door Sunday School Class, the members of the V. F. W. Ladies Auxiliary, Mary Alice Norris and Lucille Corum. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 128 North Church Street, Mountain City, TN 37683; the Johnson County Cancer Support Group, % of Flo Bellamy, 3510 Highway 421 N., Mountain City, TN 37683, the Johnson County Honor Guard, % Patti Young, 1039 Big Dry Run Road, Mountain City, TN 37683 or to a charity of one's choice. The family wishes to acknowledge the care and compassion shown to Mary Hazel by the nursing staff of Johnson City Medical Center, Floor 6200, Teresa, Sibyl, Chassity and Michelle; the staff and nurses of Amedisys Hospice, Gayla, Kristi, Sue Ann and Sherry and Mountain City Care Center, especially Crickett and Peanut. The family will receive friends at the home, 105 Sunset Dr., Mountain City, TN 37683.
