Mary Lou Stiltner On Oct. 9, 2010, Mary Lou Stiltner gave up her long and courageous battle with cancer to be at peace with the Lord. Born June 13, 1947, Mary, a native of Buchanan County, lived most of her life in Washington County, Va. Recently, she was taken back to Grundy where she was able to spend the last few months of her life close to family. Mary was the daughter of the late John Morgan Sykes Jr. and Eunice Coleman Keene Sykes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jessie James Stiltner; her brother, Harold Sykes; and her nephew, Christopher Sykes Estep. Survivors include her brother, Russell Sykes and wife Sandy; sister, Della Sykes Estep and Jimmy Marcum; nephews, Shannon Sykes and family, Rusty Sykes and family, Michael Sykes and Travis Sykes; and her two loving companions, Bud and Bobtail. A graveside service for Mary Lou Stiltner will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, with Paul Price officiating. The family wishes to thank Heritage Hall of Grundy; Dr. Mark Davis and his nurses, especially Mary and Pam; the staff of JMH Cancer Center; and caregivers Pamela Long, Rebecca Lunsford, Patricia Haley, and Kim Matney, who loved and enjoyed working with Mary Lou over the years.
