Mary J. McCarthy BRISTOL Mary J. McCarthy, 95, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Bristol Nursing Home. She was born in Bristol Tennessee on April 22, 1915, a daughter of the late Claude C. Johnson and Ava Mae Starnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E. Wade McCarthy; sons, Richard "Bud" Sharrett and Charles Sharrett; daughter-in-law, Ann Sharrett; and a special cousin, Virginia B. Galyon. She retired as the manager of Tyson's Corner after 30 years of service. She was a member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church where she was active in the "Sunshine" group, Henley-Gleaner Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and the Martha/Lydia Circle. Mrs. McCarthy was a loving and a devoted wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joyce Sharrett of Spartanburg, S.C.; five grandchildren, Mike, Chuck, Scott, and Lisa Sharrett and Kimberly Sharrett Zimmerman; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 until 2:45 Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, in the Heritage Chapel of Memories at Glenwood Cemetery. The funeral service will follow at 3 with Rev. Richie Hayes officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church, 327 West Mary St., Bristol, VA 24201.
