Miles Anderson "Rabbit" Yates LEBANON, Va. Mr. Miles Anderson "Rabbit" Yates, age 79, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010, in a Lebanon, Va., hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Honaker, Va., and was the son of the late James Edward and Maude Dye Yates. He had made his home in the Lebanon area for the past 19 years and was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He worked with Sears Stores for over 20 years in Melbourne, Fla., and was a member of the Swords Creek Block Church and a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge No. 251 AF & AM. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; and two brothers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors are: his wife, Delcie Dye Yates; one daughter, Karen Waters and husband, Ralph of Laurel, Md.; two sons, Kirk Yates and wife, Amy of Toledo, Ohio, Keith Yates and wife, Christina of Melbourne; three stepdaughters, Brenda Stone of Christiansburg, Va., Wanda Smith of Piney Flats, Tenn., Patricia Jones and fianc‚, Jeffrey Holloway of Nashville, Tenn.; one foster sister, Nina Fields and husband, Doyle of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Miles Yates will be conducted Friday, April 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Carl Robinson, Rev. Dwight Miller, Rev. Steve Perkins, Rev. Bob Yates, and Rev. Carter Wells officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be James Dye, Bobby Joe Dye, Larry Dye, Don Horton, Carl Newberry, and Randall Hess. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post No. 9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends called after 6 p,m. Thursday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands. Members of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge No. 251 AF & AM conducted services Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Men of the Swords Creek Block Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. My dear sweet cousin Miles, what a joy it has been getting to know you these last twelve years. You will be greatly missed at the Dye Family reunion in September. There will be no more pain now, as you are at rest in the arms of our Lord.
