Peggy Jean Kent ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. Peggy Jean Kent, 78, passed away Monday Dec. 14, 2009, at her residence after a brief illness. A native of Bristol, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Grace Feathers Howington. She had lived a number of years in Elizabethton. Peggy was retired from the Community Day Care Center after 17 years of services. She was a member of the East Side Christian Church. She loved to walk, read and spend time with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, James A. Kent; a daughter, Janet A. Kent, Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Mary Frances Kent, Bluff City; another daughter, Deborah Arnold, Bristol. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. John H. Smith officiating. Music will be provided by John and Mary Smith. Graveside service and Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, with Dr. Donald B. Marshall officiating. Music will be provided by Danny, Garrett, Erin and Jessee Minton. Honorary pallbearers will be: the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, all of Aunt Peggy's nieces and nephews, Dr. Mark Williams, Dr. Martin Tran and Frank Johnson. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the nursing staff of the 2300 Wing, Johnson City Medical Center and Kristi Shelton and the staff of Medical Center Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund, East Side Christian Church, 1400 Siam Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643; or the Carter County Animal Shelter, c/o Carter County Health Dept., 403 East G. Street Animal Shelter, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Friday.
