Raymond Riner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 17, 2010.
Raymond Matthew Riner CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. Raymond Matthew Riner, 20, son of the late T-Tom and Becky Riner, passed away Nov. 14, 2010, with his family by his side at Vanderbilt University Hospital. Raymond fought a hard battle with Cystic Fibrosis until the very end. He touched many people's lives in many ways and those who knew him understand that the quality of his existence far exceeds the quantity of time that he lived. His big brown eyes and signature smile was truly an inspiration to all. Raymond was a 2008 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and attended UVA and the Art Institute of Nashville. He enjoyed playing golf, cooking, being with friends and most importantly hanging out with his family. Raymond is survived by his two brothers, Jeremy and Kodie Riner; grandparents, Raymond Nunley and Mike and Brenda Robins; aunt, Katie Crane; uncles, Mark Crane, Michael Quesenberry and Carter Riner; nephew, Tyler Crane; niece, Becca Crane; great-grandmothers, Beulah Nunley and Edra Riner; numerous cousins, great-uncles and great-aunts. Funeral services for Raymond Riner will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Paul T. Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday. Raymond had set up a fundraising website that was to be used for his lung transplant at: https://raymondstransplantfund.com Any donations made through this website will be used for his funeral service and the remaining balance will be donated to a Cystic Fibrosis patient currently in Vanderbilt who is in need of a lung transplant. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so by visiting www.farrisfuneralservice.com and signing the online guestbook. Arrangements for Raymond Riner are under the care of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210 (276) 623-2700.

Raymond was one of my favorite CF patients to see in clinic while he was here at UVA. His positive attitude and wonderful personality were such a joy to see. He will be missed. Thank you for sharing him with us for a short time.

I went to Elementary School with Raymond. He was always the happiest and most wonderful person to be around. I remember he used to tell me I looked like his mom. I never did forget about Raymond even after he left my school. I wondered about him from time to time and finally found him recently on Facebook. Raymond was always optimistic and happy and never let life in general get him down. He will forever be a hero of mine. I'll never forget him and the joy he brought to everyone around him. May he rest in peace. God Bless the Riner family. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this trying time.
