Robert Haskell Quillen Mr. Robert H. Quillen, age 79, passed away, Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at NHC HealthCare surrounded by his family. Mr. Quillen was a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church and the Gleeners Sunday School Class. He was employed by the Virginia Dept. of Transportation as a Right of Way Agent for 30 years. He also retired from the United States Army as SPCE7. He was in active duty in the Korean Conflict and served in the reserves as a member of the 2nd Battilion, 319th Regiment, 80th Division. He was an active member of the East Tennessee Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society and the Bristol Bird Club. Mr. Quillen was also a member of the W. O. W. He served as a volunteer for the King Benevolent Fund and was presented the "Volunteer of the Month"award in January, 2005 with over 450 hrs. of service. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Jett Quillen; three daughters, Sherrie Jones and husband, Richard, Gate City, Va., Jerrie Doss and husband, Ronnie, Bristol Virginia, and Alesia Laparra and husband, Daniel, Richmond, Va.; four grandsons, Aaron and Ryan Jones, Jay and Steven Campbell; adopted grandson, Matt Eldreth; one granddaughter, Katelyn Doss; one great-granddaughter, Ladison Nevaeh Jones; sister, Muriel Godsey, Piney Flats, Tenn.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Margaret Jett, Bluff City, Tenn., and Harold and Freddie Daniels, Louisa Ky.; and sisters-in-law, Yvonne Jett, Bristol Tennessee, and Mary Lou Jett, Bristol Virginia. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Robert H. Quillen will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Somers officiating. Graveside Services will be held Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Mt. View Cemetery. The Bristol V.F.W. Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Sons-in-law, grandsons and Math Eldreth will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert W. McCracken, Bert Hale, Homer Canter, Troy Doran Danny Crowe and the Gleeners Sunday School Class. The family will receive friend from 2 until 4 p.m. at Akard Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Dr. David Thompson, Dr. Patel, Dr. Schrenker and the 3rd floor nursing unit of NHC Healthcare. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beech Grove United Methodist Church, or the Wycliff Bible Translators, P. O. Box 62800, Orlando, FL 32862-8211. Jerrie and Family, Im so sorry for your loss. I was out of town this weekend and when I heard couldnt help but think of the old Highway Dept days.(I realize its now VDOT, but I remember our Dads calling it the Highway Department)My best to all your Family. Andy Mumpower
