Ruby Cantrell Ratliff RICHLANDS, Va. Ruby Cantrell Ratliff, age 80, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, in a Richlands, Va., hospital. She was born in Buchanan County and was the daughter of the late Wilson and Eliza Short Cantrell. She had made her home in the Mavisdale area most of her life and was a member of the Richlands Tabernacle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Hassel Ratliff; one daughter and son-in-law, Freda Ratliff Vandyke and Bobby Vandyke; three sisters, Oma Hurt, Frances Patton, and Mabel Wade; and four brothers, Aaron Brown, Thomas Brown, Edward Cantrell, and Otis Cantrell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors are: son, Douglas Ratliff and wife, Tonya of Richlands; one granddaughter, Lisa Vandyke Ward and husband, Johnny; one step- granddaughter, Latasha Matney; three grandsons, Bobby Jerome Vandyke, Jonathan Douglas Ratliff and wife, Bobbi, and Dr. David Christopher Ratliff; two great-granddaughters, Brittany and Ashley Ward; four great-grandsons, John Tyler Ward, Matthew Ward, Jacob Vandyke, and Jordan Vandyke; granddaughter-in- law, Regina Estep Vandyke; special care givers, Linda Deel, Judy Stilwell, Peggy Christian, Lethia Smith, Stella Ford, Brenda Hawkins, and Barbara Richardson Funeral services for Ruby Cantrell Ratliff will be conducted Monday, May 31, 2010, at 12 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Ralph Horton and Rev. David Horton officiating. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be: Jonathan Ratliff, David Ratliff, Jerome Vandyke, Johnny Ward, Earl Hurt, Terry Cantrell, Larry Meadows, and Dale Breeding. Honorary pallbearers will be: Danny Justice, Rev. Phillip Horton, and Rev. T.R. Stump. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands. So sorry to hear of your Mothers passing. My condolences to the Robinson family. Peggy, Donna,George and Dale. Your Mother's greatest accomplishment was in raising four wonderful children and teaching them the work ethic that each of you have.
She was a wonderful Lady.
