Shirley Mae Holdway Cawood Shirley Mae Holdway Cawood, 86, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, in Bristol Virginia at NHC. She was born June 16, 1923, to the late James Thomas and Dorothy Millis Carico. She was a graduate of Virginia High School. Before her retirement, she worked for her husband, Dr. W.D. Cawood, at his dental office in Blountville. She was a member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of Ruth Circle, Reynolds Class, and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She loved to read, shop and travel. She was an avid Bridge player, playing with her best friends for over 50 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. W.D. Cawood; and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Keener and her husband, Jim Malles of Willow Street, Pa.; sons, John Holdway and his wife, Gail of Woodstock, Ga., Tom Holdway and his wife, Lesa of LaGrange, Ky., and Tim Holdway and his wife, Cheryl of Blountville Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Jimmy, Bradley, Stacey, Kelly, Meredith, Alysia, Derek, Jason, Michael and Alex; one great grandson, Jackson; special nieces, Ginny and Cathy; one special nephew, Skip; special caregiver, Rebecca King; and several other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:45 Sunday evening, Dec. 13, 2009, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 o'clock in the Paul Cook Memorial Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with the Rev. Richie Hayes officiating. The committal service and entombment will be held at 11 o'clock Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church, 327 Mary Street, Bristol, VA 24201.
