Susan Leigh Carico Kern ROANOKE, Va. Susan Leigh Carico Kern, 60, and formerly of Coeburn, Va., entered into glory January 7, after a 10-month battle with breast cancer. She is the daughter of Louise Kilgore Carico and the late William A. Carico of Roanoke. She is survived by her three children, Wally Kern and wife Marli of Richmond, Va., Whitney Kern and Hunter Kern of Charlotte, N.C.; her mother; and brothers, Billy Carico of Concord, Va., and Jeff Barrett Carico of Roanoke. She is the niece of Lucille Carico and the late Paul D. Carico of Coeburn, and John L. Lunsford of Williamsburg, Va., and the late Carolyn Carico Lunsford. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 3 p.m. this Saturday, May 1, at the Methodist Church in Coeburn on Second Street. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Ramsey, Va., near Norton, where Susan's ashes will be interred at the Carico family plot. Dress is casual. The eulogies and a picture slide show from her January 9, memorial service have been posted on the internet and may be viewed at www.x4.com/susan Donations may be sent to the Susan Kern Memorial Book Fund for the Back Creek Elementary School Library, 7130 Bent Mountain Road, Roanoke, VA 24018-5710, Phone (540) 772-7565.

Susan was one of the most beautiful women I have know. I will always appreciate the kindness you showed me during my years at Hidden Valley. I know she is greatly missed.
