Thurman Abshire "PA" Harris CLAYPOOL HILL, Va. Thurman Abshire "PA" Harris, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at The Cambridge House Bristol Tennessee. He was born in Richlands, Va., Jan. 14, 1923. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad with 40 years of service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Before his illness, Thurman and wife, Edna, were avid followers of the teachings of Dr. Charles Stanley, In Touch Ministries. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Shamblin Harris of 64 years; his parents, Robert S. and Cordia M. Harris; two brothers, Audnia S. Harris and Robert W. Harris; five sisters, Dorothy H. Oldham, Edith H. Semones, Thelma H. Richardson, Carolyn H. Richardson and Irene H. Oscar. He is survived by two sons, Robert Harris and wife Jennifer of Marion, Va., and Fred Harris and wife Dr. Sharon Harris of Copperhill, Va.; his grandchildren, Curtis S. Harris and wife Margo of Bluff City, Tenn., and Jennifer H. Sampson and husband David of Bluff City; their mother, Linda Harris of Bristol Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Tyler Richardson, Kyle Harris, Whitney Harris, Austin Sampson and Hunter Fadial; several nieces and nephews; a special sister-in-law, Ruth S. Christian of Richlands. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.,m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Rev. Stafford Compton officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands. Pallbearers will be Curtis Harris, David Sampson, Kyle Harris, Tyler Richardson, Dave Brown and Creed Bryant. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11 a.m. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640.
