Tony Mumpower Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2010.
Tony Ravithis Mumpower TOWSON, Md. Tony Ravithis Mumpower, 75, born in Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., with his family by his side. Tony was a loving father, supportive husband, excited grandfather, and a charming and joyful man who made friends everywhere he went. He was a hardworking photographer who built his own golf event photography company into a nationally known business that captured countless memories over 25 years. He loved being with his family, working on his business, following his sports, and telling his stories in a way that touched the hearts of all those who knew him. As an athletic young man, Tony served in the U.S. Army, played college football, was a talented swimmer and diver, and had a brief professional baseball stint with the St. Louis Cardinals. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Yolanda Teresa Mumpower; his three children, Anthony Mumpower, Mariano Mumpower (wife Sarah), and Gabriela Mumpower; granddaughter, Sophia Marie Mumpower; his sister-in-law, Billie Mumpower; and two nephews, William Mumpower, and Kevin Mumpower (wife Ginger). He was preceded in death by his brother, Lindy Mumpower. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at Woodbrook Baptist Church, 25 Stevenson Lane, Baltimore, MD 21212. The family requests that for those who desire to honor Tony with gifts of remembrance, please consider donations to The Great Prostate Cancer Challenge, a fundraising program to help end prostate cancer through research, awareness, and screening. I am pleased to add my testimonial, Tony is a consummate professional who takes a superb photograph and delivers a ‘knock your socks off’ product.

I remember the first time I hired Tony Mumpower and Picture Swing for my golf event. A client of Picture Swing showed me the hard wood photo plaque that Picture Swing did for their outing and suggested that I get in touch with Picture Swing for mine. That first year I had over 140 golfers at the event (shotgun start at 12:30PM). By the time the golfers arrived back at the clubhouse for the cocktail hour, the plaques were assembled and grouped on two large tables in foursomes. I could hardly believe my eyes. I thought that I would have to send each person their photo plaque after the event.

The reaction from the golfers was fantastic. They all huddled around the table looking for their picture plaque and commented on how handsome they were. Each golfer would have gladly paid for their plaque - it is a terrific memento of the day and the others that they played with in their foursomes. We chose to give the plaques to each golfer as part of their package. You could easily use it as a revenue producer for your event.

That was many years ago, I use Picture Swing every year since and I truly believe that these beautiful memento hard wood photo plaques are one of the reasons that my outing is so successful. It raises the event to a higher level. Tony Mumpower’s ‘Picture Swing’ is the premier sports event photographic service. I can’t praise them enough or recommend them more highly.

Dear Tony,

Well, another successful tournament is in the record books. As you already know the Pro-Ams are a huge part of the tournament week and each year the gift package is anticipated by the participants. I can’t thank you enough for the work you do to ensure everyone receives a great picture plaque as a memento of their day.

I am never disappointed by your professionalism and attention to detail. It is amazing how you can handle the timing of taking pictures on two tees simultaneously without missing a beat and have them developed, mounted and ready for distribution in such a short time. Then again you aren’t a novice in the profession.

We have had a great business association over the years and I never hesitate to recommend Picture Swing to other tournament directors or individuals who need quality pictures taken for their sporting event.
