Udell "Dell" Hicks Boothe Lebanon. Va. Mrs. Udell "Dell" Hicks Boothe, age 84, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, in the Russell County Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Boothe was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Boothe; her mother, Rosa Hicks Boothe; her sister, Ethel Morrison; her brother, J.J. "Jimmy" Davis; and her stepfather, Clint Boothe. Dell and her husband, Charlie, retired from the Beaumont Learning Center for Boys in Powhatan, Va., and they returned to make their home in their beloved Russell County several years ago. Before their illnesses, they were active members of Lebanon's Senior Citizens and enjoyed going to church and serving big dinners to their friends and family members. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Kelley, of Bristol Tennessee, and Charlotte Ryan and husband Steve, Powhatan, Va.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Baker and husband Greg of Bristol Virginia, Melissa Lampkins and husband Jerry of Lebanon, Christine Keene and husband Steve, Blountville, Tenn., and Charles Glenn and Heather Ryan of Powhatan. She was also the proud great- grandmother of Brandon Baker, Caleb Powers, Jared, Shianna and Isabella Grace Keene; two sisters, Heda Collins, Norton, Va., and Edith Patrick, Bristol Virginia; half-brother, Kenneth Ray Hicks, Coeburn; half-sister, Juanita Large, Indiana; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Bill Gobble, a long-time family friend, officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, in the Russell Memorial Cemetery. Those attending are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Glenn Ryan, Steve Ryan, Steve Keene, Jim Fields Jr., Jerry Lampkins and Jason Harold. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, prior to the service. Combs Funeral Service, 291 Fincastle Road, Lebanon, VA 24266, (276) 889-4444, is serving the family of Mrs. Boothe.
