William Noel "Bill" Collie WISE, Va. William Noel "Bill" Collie, 38, rode into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010. He was born in Clifton Forge, Va., and moved to Wise in 1978. He was a lifelong member of the Wise Baptist Church. He was a 1990 graduate of J.J. Kelly High School where he was co-valedictorian, a member of the varsity basketball team, track team and 1988 state championship cross country team. A 1994 graduate of Virginia Tech, he was a member of PHI BETA KAPPA, the Golden Key Honor Society and a team member of the Virginia Tech Cycling Club. A staunch supporter and devoted fan of the Virginia Tech Hokie Football Team, he was a loyal member of the Wise Hokie Club. He was a 1996 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, where he earned his master's degree in physical therapy and served as director of rehabilitation services for Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital. He was a passionate and competitive cyclist, riding over 10,000 miles annually, participating in mountain triathlons and competed in countless regional cycling events. He was a charter member of the Lonesome Pine Cycling Club, a member of the United States Cycling Federation, having won the 1994 District 42 Road Race Championship in the Virginia Commonwealth Games, and a Master Level member of the Tri-Cities Road Club. Surviving are his Loving wife of 17 years, Pam Collie; two sons, Lance Collie and Luke Collie of Wise; his parents, Jim and Sherry Collie of Wise; brother, Rick Collie of Radford, Va.; his cycling brothers, Phillip Prince, Charlie Beverly, Chris Starnes, David Dillon, Sput Addison and David Wall; and a host of other loving family members and friends. The Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. till time of services at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wise Baptist Church. Memorial services for Bill Collie will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at the Wise Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Jones Jr. officiating. Light refreshments will be offered during visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Lance and Luke Collie College Fund, c/o Wachovia Bank, 701 Park Ave., Norton, VA 24273. Sturgill Funeral Home, 1621 Norton Road, SW, Wise, VA 24293, is in charge of arrangements.
