Willie Clarence Statzer SUTHERLIN, Va. Willie Clarence Statzer, 90, of 5886 South Boston Hwy., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at his residence after a decline in his health for the past year. Mr. Statzer was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Washington County, Va., a son of the late Joseph Noah Statzer and the late Deliah Bowman Statzer. He had lived his life in Pittsylvania County, Va., and had retired, after 43 years, from Dan River Mills, Inc. where he had worked as a pattern changer in 4-B weave. He was a member of Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. On Sept. 16, 1941, he married Pauline Moore Statzer, who died on Feb. 9, 2003. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. Survivors include two daughters, Jean S. Marlowe and husband, Tony, of Sutherlin and Jennifer Statzer of Sutherlin; two grandchildren, Mary M. Spond and husband, Kurt, and Melody M. Campbell and husband, Randy; and six great-grandchildren, Katie Spond, Charlie Spond, Emma Spond, Morgan Campbell, McKenzie Campbell and Mason Campbell. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010 at 3 p.m. from Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Piatt and the Rev. Jimmy Burks officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the funeral service, and at other times at the residence. Also, they suggests memorials may be made to the Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church Building Fund, 129 Clarks Mill Road, Ringgold, VA 24586.
