Delbert 'Del' Mace Reed Sr. passed away on January 26, 2012, at the age of 88 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Oroville, Washington, on August 25, 1923, to Mace Leon and Adele Virginia Reed. He was raised in Newport, Washington, and lived at Bead Lake where he married the love of his life, Carol Morfi on January 24, 1943.
He entered the service in 1943 where he traveled to France, Austria and Germany. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Company I, 263rd Infantry, and 66th Division.
Delbert and Carol moved from Newport, Washington, to Walla Walla in 1947, then moving on to Burbank Washington in 1951 and built their home where they raised their six children on their part-time farm.
Delbert had a pilot's license and loved to fly. He was a member of the IBEW Local 112 working as an electrician on all the Snake River Dams and the Hanford area, acquiring his nick name 'Running Thread.' Delbert was a founding member of the Two Rivers Riding Club and a member of the American Legion Post 34, Pasco.
After retiring as an electrician, he started an excavation business, 'Reed's Excavation,' with his son so he could play with the heavy equipment.
Delbert was preceded in death by his wife Carol and two grandchildren, Travis Reed and Shannon Livergood. He is survived by his brother Eugene Reed of Newport, WA and sister Virginia Woods of Tillamook, OR. Children: Hazel Shepard (Dennis), Melinda Hawes (Pat), Delbert Reed Jr, Nancy Livergood (Hal), Carol Wharton, David Reed (Cindy). Grandchildren: Doug Shepard, Hayley Shepard-Hernandez, Amy Brown, Andy Bagley, Melanie O'Brien, Mindy Rogers, Jarred Reed, Sara Addington, Danielle Saunders, Carin Waters, Chrissy Bronkhorst, Kacey Gartner and 23 great-grandchildren.
