GALEN HIEB Obituary

10/26/1951 - 6/23/2012

Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home

Galen was born in Burley, Idaho, and was the oldest of three boys. He learned the value of hard work at a young age when he started his own hay hauling business while in high school. After graduating from school in Rupert, Idaho, Galen married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Miller, in February 1972. Thus began a new chapter in Galen's life with starting a family and developing an agriculture business. In 1977, Galen, Nancy and their two daughters moved to Pasco, Washington. Soon his family grew with the addition of two sons while his ag business, Hieb Spraying, prospered. Galen loved his family especially his grandchildren; he also enjoyed fishing, listening to music, barbecuing, and spending time with his numerous friends. Family and friends gathered frequently at the Hieb house for pot lucks with Galen in full charge of the grill. Galen touched many lives with his kind heart and generous spirit. He told great stories about escapades in his younger days. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Galen is survived by Nancy and his children: Rebecca & Marc Ramsey, Sara Hieb, John & Leslie Hieb, Michael Hieb, and his beloved grandchildren: Nickolas & Adam Ramsey and Austin & Addison Hieb. Galen also leaves behind his mother, Bonnie Hieb, and brothers Dennis (Carol) Hieb and Jeff (Natalie) Hieb; in-laws, David Miller and Marcia Miller and nephews and nieces: Stephen, Benjamin & Curtis Hieb; Brandon (Christina) Miller, Danna Cox, and Lodie Steen. He is preceded in death by his father, Theodore Hieb.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco. The service will be Friday, June 29, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kennewick, with interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.

I met Galen in 1978, and remember his blue ford pickup sprayer...he was a good guy to work with and I know he, and his work ethic and experience as a professional applicator will be missed by many. I regret I can't attend the service tomorrow as I am in Yuba City looking at glyphosate damaged peaches...but the entire family, especially son John will be in my prayers. Galen left a mark on the heart of all who knew him, he was not an easy or perfect man but a good one.

We did not know Galen well but being the father and the father-in-law to Marc and Rebecca, I know he will be missed a great deal. His smile was always big and his humor was always there. I know that my Kids will miss him.

Galen was more than a brother-in-law to me. He was a friend, confidante, and a true brother, the kind that would do anything for you. He had a huge heart and his objective was always to make sure everyone was cared for. He had a great smile and a great sense of humor. I will always miss him. Our barbecues and get togethers will not be the same without him.
