Lela R. Maria Kernodle, 83, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014, at the Squires Residence Adult Family Home in Kennewick, WA.

Lela was born June 17, 1930 to Bennedetto and Mary Canganelli in Indianapolis, IN and grew up in Pittsboro, IN. She attended Indiana University and graduated from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, in Indianapolis.

Lela married Richard Kernodle in 1952 and moved to Richland in 1975. She was a homemaker.

Her greatest joys in life were her family, friends, and (especially) babies! Another great joy to her was her "Mom Cave", where she sewed and kept her many pieces of materials.

Lela is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard Kernodle; daughters, Mary Olson of Richland; Lisa Mead of West Richland; son, Kenneth (Julie) Kernodle of Longview, WA; daughter-in-law Becky Kernodle of Salt Lake City, UT; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with two more on the way!

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Kernodle and grandson Daniel Kernodle.

The family would like to give special thanks to Carie Squires and her loving staff at The Squires Residence, and to Dr. J Wolfert and his wonderful staff at the wound Management Clinic in Richland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-City Cancer Center.

There will be visitation held on Friday, January 24, 2014, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Einan's Funeral Home, 915 By-Pass Hwy in Richland. No formal services are planned at this time.
