ANTHONY CARLSON Obituary

Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home

Anthony Roy Carlson was born August 6, 1991, in Portland, OR. His parents are Robert Carlson and Judy Meedom. He was raised in the Beaverton area and graduated from Beaverton High School in 2010. According to his mother, Tony was always a 'water baby.' He loved swimming, and made J.V. swim team as a freshman and lettered on the varsity swim team as a sophomore. He enjoyed being involved in school activities. He was a lighting technician for the theater group from his freshman year through his junior year. Tony also volunteered at the recreation center, helping with the after school day care program.

After high school, Tony enlisted in the Oregon National Guard. He discovered a great purpose in the National Guard, and had passion for serving and defending this nation. He completed his basic training at Fort Benning, GA, and was attending his AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He was talking of voluntarily deploying to the Middle East, where he felt he could help and make a difference. He also showed interest in pursuing a fire fighting career through the National Guard.

Tony had a zest for life, and lived each day to its fullest. He was outgoing and made friends with ease. He will be remembered with love.

Tony passed away on May 27, 2011, in Maryland. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2011, in Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2011, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.

Tony is survived by his parents, Judy Meedom and Robert Carlson; brother, Matthew Meedom; stepbrother, Jessy Ramirez; stepsister, Ashley Josten; grandparents, William and Joyce Carlson, Gordon and Beverly Makinster, and Sylvia and Charles Selden; and many cherished friends.

The family suggests contributions in Tony's name to the Oregon Humane Society. Condolences may be offered at www.lincolnmemorialpk.com.

Tony,

You meant so much to me as a friend. you left too early, but I feel like it was also time for you to go. You have been in my thoughts and dreams since the day I found out, and I want you to know that I will miss you for the rest of my life. Please rest in peace.

Judy, I have been praying for your family, friends and the men that were with Tony that dreadful day. I was on my way home an I go through the park to get home, when a police officer waved us to the next rd. because they had the road closed. I just knew that something bad had happened. I heard about it later on the news, but they didn't say anything about where he was from. I just did find out tonight, I looked it up on line, I am soooo sorry that this happened in my state. I can't relay the sorrow I have for you all. I have been praying that God would give you peace and comfort through this most difficult time. I have 2 sons, my oldest was in the 82nd. airbourne and served 2 tours in Iraq. Thats why I am so touched by what has happened.
On Memorial Day weekend(sunday) I went up in front of my church to pray for our service men an women, and for your family. I really had to hold back the tears while I was praying because God has allowed me to feel your pain. He has put you on my heart so deep, to keep you lifted up dailey in my prayers. Let him help you to get through this difficult time in your life. I have lost alot of family members an friends in my life, and without the Lord I would not be here writing this to you. I can't imagine going through life's valleys without him. I don't know how people manage the hard times without having a relationship with Jesus in this world. I know I couldn't. So, if you don't know him personally, just cry out to him, he will help you get through this. I
know it will be hard, but don't forget your other children, they are
grieving to, you all should pray together and let the Lord give you peace in this storm. God Bless

My heart breaks for your family. I do not know you, nor did I know your son. My nephew was a friend in training with your son in MD. I can only express how sad my heart is at the loss of your son. Having a son about the same age, I can only imagine your profound grief. May your memories fight through the sadness of your loss, and in time bring you joy remembering the closeness that made Tony so cherished to you. God Bless your family
