Anna L Johnston, age 76, passed away Thursday, January 13, at her home in Kennewick after a long illness. Ann was born on July 10, 1934 in Springfield, MO, where she was raised by her parents Margaret and John Griffin.

Ann graduated from Springfield High School in 1952. Later that year in December, she met her future husband, Don and they were married on that December 29. When Don was drafted into the Korean War, she moved to Richland to be near Don's family while he was away. Ann lived in the Richland Army Barracks and worked as a waitress at Richland's Red Green restaurant until his return in 1955.

Together they had two wonderful sons, whom she loved to care for and raise while Don was away. With the weekends came travel to various locations for camping and fishing. Ann loved to travel, and she was able to do so as Don's work took them all over the northwest, often staying the summer while school was out. They had extended stays in Bellingham and even Maui for a few years. After retirement, Don and Ann would be on the road for weeks visiting relatives and sightseeing around the country.

Ann was preceded in death by her brothers John and Jack Griffin, and most recently her youngest son Randy.

Ann is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Don; son, Rick (Karen) Johnston; grandson, Matthew; granddaughter, Jennifer; daughter-in-law, Kathy Johnston and Kathy's son, Marc Pugh; all of Kennewick. She is also survived by her loving nieces, nephews, and their families.

Ann was the backbone of our family, our true center, and she will be genuinely missed by all who knew and loved her.

There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick.
