Mildred Chapman Obituary

September 9, 1920 - March 2, 2011

Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home

Mildred Fern Chapman was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She was born on September 9, 1920, in Fairmont, Nebraska, to Ferndinand and Ida Fisbeck. She was raised on her parents' farm, along with her brother, Elmer. It was there in Nebraska where Mildred met Leslie Chapman. She later married Leslie on April 27, 1937 in the town of Prosser. Together they made a home in Kennewick where they raised their three children: Shirley, Patty and Ronald. They enjoyed 72 years together before Leslie died on December 10, 2009.

Mildred will always be remembered as a strong woman and a hard worker throughout her life. She was dedicated to her family and worked tirelessly to make a wonderful home for them. She enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, crocheting and visiting national parks. She especially took pride in the beautiful afghans she made for her family. The happy memories of going to her house, and the sweet smells from her kitchen of fresh banana bread, and the kitty cookie jar always full of her wonderful homemade cookies will always be cherished. She will be greatly missed by all who were touched by her life.

Mildred was preceded in death by her brother, Elmer Fisbeck; her eldest daughter, Shirley Rathbone; and her husband, Leslie Chapman. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Taylor, residing in Naches, Washington; her son, Ronald Chapman and daughter-in-law Toni Chapman, residing in Kennewick. Mildred is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, 12:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick, with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon for family and friends will be held at Country Gentleman at 1:30 p.m., following the interment at Riverview Heights Cemetery.

I used to live across the street from the Chapmans and Jim and Shirley. I will always remember on school mornings when the weather was bad, She was always leaving to go somewhere when I was leaving for school. She always gave me a ride all the way to the front door of the school. I will miss all of them.
