DOLORES WALTERS Obituary
1928 - 2011
Dolores, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully in San Diego, CA, on January 3, 2011.
Dolores was born in Stanley, ND, graduated from high school there in 1946. During WWII she worked at a hardware store and a gas station pumping gas 'til the boys came home.' After marrying the handsome soldier, Bob Molzhon, she dedicated herself to raising their four children. Meanwhile, she volunteered for the Stanley Community Betterment Association, leading the local Music Club to promote fine arts, and began her lifelong love of playing bridge.
In 1968, the family moved to Bismarck, ND, and Dolores worked for the State Planning Agency, Wachter Elementary School, the ND Legislature, the State Planning Agency, HR Block, the Downtowner's Association, and owned and operated a downtown delicatessen. She continued to be involved in music and theatre, and hosted elaborate parties to entertain her husband's business associates, many of whom were ND state government executives. She, of course, continued to play bridge.
Dolores moved to Kennewick, WA, in 1981. There she worked as secretary for the Eastern Washington Good Roads and Transportation Association, was a craftsperson for Fiber Mosaics, worked at the gift shop at the Pasco Red Lion, and was house manager for the Mid Columbia Symphony.
Dolores joined the Celebration Choir at the Parish of the Holy Spirit. She used her beautiful voice and highly developed musical training to sing with that choir until her death. We know that now she is playing bridge, singing, and working on making Heaven a more stylish place.
She is survived and deeply missed by her daughters: Jean McDonald (Greg), and their daughters Kelly Mackey (Ryan) and Erin Christensen (Jake) from Kennewick; Susan Yates (Quentin) and son Quentin II, (San Diego); Nancy Retterath (Jesse) (Hazen, ND) and daughters Dawn Haqq (Chris) (Portland, OR), Andrea Retterath, Tessa Retterath, Jill Retterath; and by her son Rob Molzhon (Bismarck, ND). She will be missed by her 5 greatgrandchildren Isaac, Marin, Colson, Jaelyn and Ella. She is also survived by her brother Curtis Walters, (Bismarck, ND)
Dolores' family in Kennewick was blessed to have her living here for the last 30 years. She was active in all of their lives and brought them laughter, music and love.
The family wants to express their thanks to her Bridge Club, Red Hat Society, Symphony and Choir friends for the friendships they showed her. With deep gratitude, they thank Susie and Jackie, her Angels, who loved and cared for her far beyond any expectation.
They thank God for her. May He hold her and bless her forever.
A memorial funeral Mass will be held at the Parish of the Holy Spirit on January 22 at 11:00 a.m. Former members of the choir are invited to arrive at 10:00 for rehearsal to sing for her service.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to the Parish of the Holy Spirit.
