ETOY ALFORD Obituary

Etoy Alford, Sr., 69, of Richland, went to sleep March 8, 2011, surrounded by his loving family after a three-year battle with cancer. Etoy is survived by his wife Patricia; children, Veronica (McGlothan), Dawn, Etoy Jr., Jennifer (Alao), and Amber; grandson, Demetrius Lopez Alford; and was 'Dad' to granddaughters Indigo & Chandler Bethley, and Jade Alao. He was also survived by siblings Cleminstene Townsy, Clarence Alford Jr., and Crissie Hay; and 54 other family members. Etoy's parents, Clarence & Ella Alford, and siblings Lexie Alford and Darie Brown, preceded him in death.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1941, in Ringgold, LA. Etoy had a strong work ethic, loved fishing, and was dedicated to family. He graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge with a degree in agriculture. This is also where he landed the love of his life, Pat. Employment brought him to the Tri-Cities in 1967, where he worked for various Hanford contractors, ultimately retiring from Lockheed Martin.

Etoy was a family man who worked tirelessly to provide for, protect, and educate his family. He dedicated years to coaching his daughters Jennifer, Amber, and Indigo's softball teams.

Etoy's greatest achievement was his personal and spiritual transformation over the last decade. He grew spiritually and wished to be baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Etoy died with the assured hope that he will one day be resurrected in a paradise Earth and be rejoined with his family again.

Alford Family,
I only had a brief time to get to know Etoy, but since he was with AL Williams (now called Primerica)back in the day, we had a lot of the same passions for helping families financially in common. I met Veronica first at Starbucks about almost 3 years ago and had the best conversation about her dad and how he loved the days of AL Williams. It was only last year that Etoy called me and said he had someone for me to train to be a new agent and wanted me to meet him at Sterling Resturant to get acquainted. I think about that now and how much fun it was to have someone who was so knowledgeable and a great coach show me his way of training someone in the same spirits of the days before. Since then Veronica and I have become friends but I will always remember those days I was fortunate to have with Etoy because it was obvious I was in the presence of a good man father and humanitarian.

Love and appreciation,

I am so sorry for your loss. Etoy was a good man. He saw something in me that I didn't even know was there. He believed in me and pushed me to be a better person. He was the best coach ever. The memories I have of him and our team will never be forgotten. The lessons he taught me will live on forever. He touched my life and I feel blessed to have known him. Thank you Alford family for sharing your dad, your husband, your brother with us softball girls. He really did have a huge impact on all of our lives. God bless you in your time off loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Pat, Veronica, & Family:

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Etoy.

I remember when he came to North Carolina to attend a girl's baseball tournament on North Carolina A&T State University's campus several years ago. We talked a little while he was here.

He fought a Good fight over the years with his illness. But now, he's in a place with the Lord.

May the God give the family strength for the days ahead.

With Deepest Sympathy,

Richard A. Bricker

Dear Pat, Veronica, & Family:

I am sorry to hear of your life partner, and father's, passing...

I remember well the verse on a sympathy card I received when my Mom passed away... it read: "Grief is the price we pay for love." This helped me at a difficult time.

May you find strength & peace in the memories of your loved one and in the support of those who care about you.

I admired, loved and respected Etoy. Some of the most memorable and enjoyable times of my life were spent with this man who was totally devoted to his family, worked hard and successfully and took the time helping those less fortunate. Our fishing trips were filled with laughter, conversations about our families, deep discussions about our country and our abiding love of the outdoors -God's Creation. He made this world a better place. I will miss him greatly, but even in tears I take comfort knowing he is out of pain and with Our Lord. Joe La Grone
