Einan's Funeral Home
Joseph G. Reder was born October 12, 1923, to Rosita Chevallier Boutell and Mark Webb Reder. He passed away on January 23, 2011, surrounded by family and gently slipped into the arms of his Heavenly Father and savior Christ Jesus. Joe fought a long and courageous battle with varied forms of cancer.
Joseph leaves his wife, Linda of Richland; daughter, Jody Lynn Clark; son-in-law Jason Clark; five grandchildren, Michael, Tyler, Andrew, Cameron and Jordan Clark, who reside in Ephrata, Washington; son, Brian Reder and daughter-inlaw Jane who reside in the Seattle area. His mother, father and two brothers, Peter and Frank, preceded him in death.
Joe grew up and attended school in Santa Monica, California. He played a variety of sports and had fond memories and long stories of being raised on the beach. He served in the military during World War II, and later attended UCLA. He was an employee of Hughes Aircraft Company for 12 years in varied management positions on R & D projects and the design, manufacture, installation and operations of advanced radar systems for the first three nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy (Enterprise, Bainbridge and Long Beach). He was later employed in Downey, California, for 17 years with North American Rockwell Space Division in engineering management on the Apollo and Space Shuttle Programs. He and his family resided during those early years in La Mirada, California. Upon relocation to Richland he worked for Rockwell and Westinghouse until the time of his retirement at Hanford.
His main love in life was sporting events with his children and was always there cheering them on.
Following retirement he was an avid walker and carried treats in his pocket for all the little animals that he would meet along the way. He loved to visit with neighbors on his daily route and never missed stopping to talk with a stranger. Joe enjoyed many a fishing trip during his time in the Northwest with coworkers and special friends. He truly loved gospel music, was an avid Mariner fan, and loved aviation.
Following retirement he served with the IRS as committee representative to two groups EITC Committee and Area 6 Committee and enjoyed travel with them. Most recently he donated hours to the Med-Star unit in the Tri-Cities and greatly enjoyed the many friendships he made during that time period.
