KATHRYN BARNARD-SCHREINER Obituary

Born February 6, 1971, in Walla Walla, WA. She grew up in Kennewick where she was an avid sports fan and participant in volleyball and track. She was proud of her MVP status in basketball her freshman year of high school. She moved to Corvallis, OR, prior to relocating to FL in 1996. Katie loved animals so much that she trained as a Veterinary Technician. Katie met and subsequently married Bill Schreiner in 2006. They were married for almost 5 years. Katie applied for and was hired at the Beach Animal Hospital in Cocoa Beach, FL, for DVM Richard Bernard where she worked until her passing. Dr Bernard and Katie enjoyed the one letter difference in their respective surnames.

Katie is survived by her husband Bill Schreiner, father Dr. Philip Barnard, mother Donna Davis Barnard, stepmother Tanya Barnard, brother Jeffery Barnard, brother Jeffrey Barnard, sister Juliana Barnard-Huttenmeyer, stepbrothers Cameron and Kent Shoemaker, including many nieces and nephews. Bill's parents Jan and Pete and sister Carol and brother Jim were also very important to Katie.

Services were held followed by a reception at the home of Dr. Bernard and his wife Penny to honor Katie, May 11, 2011, in Cocoa Beach, FL.

Katie had a marvelous spirit and approached life with enthusiasm until May 6, 2011, when she suffered a fatal stroke. Katie will always have a place in our hearts.
