NORMAN MADDOX Obituary

Prosser, Wash.

Prosser Funeral Home & Crematory

Norman Richard Maddox, of Prosser, WA, passed from his beloved family on Saturday, February 26, 2011, in Yakima after a long and courageous battle with leukemia.

Norm was born in Napa, CA, on February 10, 1926, to Edward (Ted) and Helen Maddox, and moved to Clark County as a young boy. Norm graduated from Battle Ground High School with the Class of '44, and later graduated from Washington State College in 1952.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1947, aboard several supply ships as a member of the armed guard gun crews, mostly in the Pacific Theater.

Norm was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Lois Marie Burton Maddox in 2008, his parents, his brother Cliff Maddox, and sister Shirley Lyness.

Norm is survived by his children; Jeff of Prosser; Jody and wife Debbie of Paterson; Kerry and husband Paul of Prosser; and Jerry and wife Judy of Vancouver; along with 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Norm was a kind, gentle, generous, and hardworking man with a great sense of humor who will be deeply and forever missed by his large family and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the Paterson Community Church, followed by a luncheon at the home of Jody and Debbie Maddox in Paterson. Arrangements handled by the Prosser Funeral Home.

Our condolences go out to all of you. Our family has been blessed to have spent so many wonderful years with both Norm and Lois. We were all one big Vancouver Swim Club family. My parents were fortunate to have visited with Norm just last year and share some laughs and many wonderful memories. His quiet sense of humor and kindness will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

I am sad to read of Norm's passing; and that his sister, Shirley, and brother, Cliff, are also gone. They were all one to four grades ahead of me at Pleasant Valley Grade School, but I remember them as really nice kids. I remember being invited to a Halloween party in their home located along Salmon Creek, just up the road from the school. Am sorry, too, that Norm suffered with Leukemia. Must trust that he and his parents, brother and sister are with the Lord.
