Roger Gutzmer Obituary

October 4, 1937 - March 31, 2011

Hillcrest Memorial Center

Roger (Leo) Gutzmer, 73, went to be with the Lord on, March 31, 2011, after an unexpected battle with Creutz-Feldt Jacob disease. He was born on October 4, 1937, in Monroe, Wisconsin, to Leo & Faye Gutzmer.

He was the second of ten children. Roger grew up on a ranch in Chadron, Nebraska, and a dairy farm in Wisconsin. He graduated from Monroe Senior High School in 1954, then joined the Army and became a paratrooper. After leaving the Army, he worked for Burgess Battery, in Freeport, Illinois, then moved on to work at Tom's Silo Service, in Monroe, Wisconsin, and eventually bought the business. After many years of having his own business he followed his son and family to Arizona and Washington. He worked with his best friend and son, Greg, at Ace Electric for many years. Working was one of his hobbies, along with always being close to his son, so he never truly retired.

He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling back to Wisconsin, going to the horse races, playing cards, watching the Packers and working. He was outgoing and had a great sense of humor with a smile that would light up the room. Roger was adored by all who met him!

Roger is now fishing in heaven with his parents Leo and Faye; brothers: Jerold and Greg; children: Alan and Roxanna.

Roger is survived by his son, Greg (wife Lora) and daughter, Diana Blumer; grandchildren who were very dear to his heart: Jimmy, Jessica (Nick) Suitonu, LeAnn (Will) Touchette, Tanya and Analee; great-grandchildren: Kassadi and Kayden Suitonu, Landen and Eastyn Touchette, Tristan and Taliyah; siblings: Judy, Marilyn, Gary, Phillip, Ronald, Shirley, Dennis; many nieces, nephews, and special friend Elaine Haefer Gutzmer.

There will be a memorial service at In Step Church, 201512 E. Finley Road, Kennewick, WA. On Saturday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at Hapo Community Credit Union in Roger Gutzmer's name.
