SHEILA GOOLDY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 22 to Oct. 24, 2010.

Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home

Sheila passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2010, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born January 23, 1940, in Craighadoes, Co., Donegal, Ireland, to Daniel and Julia Wilson. She was the fifth child of eleven children.

At the age of 18, Sheila became an exchange student to a family in New York while she held an internship with McGraw Hill Publishing Co.

Upon returning to Ireland, she married Patrick McGettigan in November 1961. Together they shared seven years of marriage and had two daughters, Sharon and Ann.

In 1971, Sheila married James Gooldy, who was serving in the United States Air Force stationed at RAF Upper Heyford, England. Sheila and her daughters immigrated to the United States upon Jim's discharge from the service, and made their home in Kennewick, WA. A few years later, Jim and Sheila welcomed son Ian to the family.

Sheila had a strong, fighting spirit and a gentle, caring heart. She held successful careers in both nursing and real estate. Sheila had a way with people that touched everyone, and she found great pleasure in quietly and selflessly giving to others. A wonderful wife, mom, and grandma, she especially enjoyed her grandchildren (and granddogs) and held a special bond with each of them.

She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Wilson; ex-husband; and her father-in-law, Ralph Gooldy.

She is survived by her eight siblings: Noel Wilson, Mary Timoney, Anna Quinn, Brian Wilson, Sadie McLean, and Kay McGlinchey, all of Ireland; and Daniel Wilson and Tommy Wilson of England. She is also survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Jim; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Mike Scellick of Ephrata; daughter, Ann Sullivan of Pasco; son, Ian Gooldy of Denver; grandchildren: Michelle ScellickBurns (Craigen), Ryan Scellick (Haley), Patrick Scellick, Catherine Scellick, Matt Sullivan, Luke Sullivan (Leisl); four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sheila will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Monday, October 25, at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 26, at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kennewick.
