Karen Ann Smith went to be with her lord on February 11th, 2014 in Richland, Washington surrounded by family.
Karen was born on June 22, 1949 in Steubenville, Ohio to Stanley and Margaret Muczynski. She grew up in Toronto, Ohio graduating from Toronto High School in 1968. During her early years, she had many childhood experiences with the opportunity of living with her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. She was involved in many school activities and church activities at her Byzantine Catholic Church which brought her enjoyment that she recalled many times throughout her life.
Her passion was to become an elementary school teacher. To reach her dream, she got her degree in Elementary Education from Kent State University. She continued her training and graduated from Ohio State University with her Master's Degree in Education. This started her career as an elementary school teacher. She started teaching in Toronto, Ohio and then onto Columbus, Ohio where she met and married John Crocker. They had a son, Christopher Crocker that was the joy of her life. With a major family move to Jacksonville, Florida, she continued her teaching where she taught at the Diocese of St. Augustine.
After retiring from teaching, Karen moved to Pasco, Washington where she married Richard Smith on July 29th, 2006. One of the many things that she enjoyed was traveling, her friends and the opportunity to be part of the Choir at Christ the King.
She is survived by her father, Stanley F. Muczynski of Kennewick, WA, son Christopher Crocker of Los Angeles, CA, and her husband, Richard Smith. She was preceded in death by her mother Margaret and grandparents.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 20th, 3:00 p.m. at Christ the King Church in Richland. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to the Benton County Humane Society.
