Kent Humphrey

Feb 25, 1922 - Feb 17, 2013

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on February 17, just days short of his 91st birthday. Kent was born in Craik, SK to AP and Ruth Humphrey. At age 18, he enlisted in the RCAF and spent most of WWII in Europe as one of the first radar technicians. After the war, he re-enlisted and had a successful career in the Air Force, retiring as the commanding officer of a communications squadron in Winnipeg. In 1948, he married the love of his life Elsie Larke of Morden, MB and they were stationed to a number of cities across Canada and in France, always embracing the adventure of new places and new faces. After his retirement from the Air Force in 1971, the family relocated to Tsawwassen, BC and Kent began a second career at UBC as a radiation and biohazard technician. Retiring for good in 1987, Kent and Elsie moved to Ladner, BC and continued to enjoy their community activities and travel adventures. Kent was an active and dedicated volunteer throughout his life, serving on the first Board of the Delta Hospital as Chair, the Board of Tsawwassen United Church, working at the Ladner Community Police Office, and driving cancer patients to medical appointments. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Burk and Lee, and his sister Loretta. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 65 years Elsie, his daughter Roberta (Carlo), his son Burk, grandchildren Alex and Julia, family and friends. The family would like to thank Kent's caregivers Jean and Christina for the past 3 months of love and devotion. Please join the family in celebrating Kent's life on March 7 at 2 pm at the Tsawwassen United Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Delta Hospital Auxiliary.
