Jerry Mainello Obituary

Jerry P. Mainello TROY - Jerry P. Mainello, 87, of Troy, entered into eternal life surrounded by his family Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital after a short illness. Born in Troy, Jerry was the son of the late John Mainello and Lucy Capuano. He was a lifelong resident of Troy and a well-known fixture on South Lake Ave in Sycaway. As a World War II veteran, he served in the Navy onboard the USS Carlisle, which was deployed to Pearl Harbor. After being discharged, he was employed and retired from Behr-Manning/Norton Company. He then worked with his brother, Pat, for many years at their business, Mainello Brother's Refuse. After which he worked alongside his son, John, at Mainello's Sports Pub and Restaurant for over thirty years. Jerry was an amazing father and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved spending time on his front lawn waving to all his friends throughout the years. He enjoyed going for car rides, watching the horse races and reruns of the Sopranos. He was a member of the Sullivan Jones VFW Post # 7466 in Poestenkill and was a communicant of the Communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Campbell, whom he married May 25, 1960. Also predeceased by his brothers, Patrick and Daniel Mainello. He is survived by his beloved son, John and MaryEllen Mainello of Troy, as well as his three grandchildren, Theresa (John) Kaniff of Troy, Angela (fiancé, Dillon Bebee) Mainello of Ocala, FL, and Danielle Mainello of Troy, his great grandson, Austin John Kaniff, his brothers, Robert (Jan) Mainello of Fleming Island, FL and John (Grace) Mainello of Brunswick, his sisters-in-law, Angeline Mainello of Troy and Mariea Mainello of Leesburg, FL, also survived by many special nieces and nephews. Jerry's family would like to full heartedly thank the 4th and 6th floor staff at Samaritan Hospital for the outstanding compassion and care that was received over the past few days. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, North Lake Ave at Marshland Court, Troy. Burial with military honors will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy, following the Mass. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday, July 12, 2013 (today) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street, Troy In lieu of flowers, Jerry would desire that you make a memorial contribution to support his 5 year old great nephew, Anthony who is battling cancer. Memories and Condolences
for Jerry Mainello

Not sure what to say?

To all in the Mainello family, Frank (Chip), Colleen and Jan Capuano send our thoughts your way. We all just found out about Jerry. I am sure our mom, Dolly and our dad, Frank welcomed Jerry. He is on a soul's journey now. It is easy to feel so sad.....but know it was his time to leave the physical earth and be with family and friends in the spirit world. I will admit I will miss seeing Jerry, sitting outside his house on South Lake. Many times on my way to work he was there with a smile or walking down the sidewalk with a white rag out the back pocket. Wishing you all peace!

To the Mainello Family~

Sorry to hear the passing of your dad Jerry, it was a shock. We will continue to wave as we pass by the house on South Lake. We use to stop in the bar and he would say "Have to charge you extra for a cold one!" or "Nice doing business with you. He was the last of the "good guys!" We will miss him. God Speed Jerry.

What can I say that has not already been said. I remember him walking on Hoosick St every day, and I'd yell "Good Morning Jerry!", and he'd smile and wave. He had a way of making every one of us feel special. He was an awesome, generous soul. Never to be forgtotten.

Jerry was a good man John. I will always remember how he loved his "pleasure doing business with ya" or "glad you came in". Often I too drove by his house as he sat in his chair. I would stop and chat for an hour or so. We truly enjoyed each others company. Mainello's was my "Cheers" and I miss those days which hold great memories. As I just lost my beloved "Bobbie Casale" recently, I can sincerely sympathize with your loss. My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your entire family John & Mary Ellen. Yes indeed...he was a good man.

Our condolences on the loss of your father. Jerry was a great man. Years ago, we use to stop in to Mainello's after our bowling league and Jerry would always come over to talk to us. He had known my husband's family for years. Jerry even attended our wedding 38 years ago. He is an icon in Sycaway. South Lake Avenue will never be the same without Jerry sitting there and waving or taking his daily strolls with the ever present towel in his back pocket. May all of our memories bring comfort to your heart and to know what a special man your dad was and how loved and respected he still is.
